How the Workout-Volume Calculation Works

The calculator keeps raw set counts separate from weighted estimates, so the assumptions never disappear inside one unexplained score.

Why Secondary Sets Default to 0.5

Indirect work contributes to training stimulus, but it is not identical to direct work. Fractional counting is a transparent starting convention, not a claim that every secondary muscle always receives exactly half a set. Change the weight when your exercise selection, technique, or programming model justifies it.

Relative comparison, not a perfect-set target

Distribution and Emphasis Flags

Weekly frequency is spread as evenly as possible through a seven-day model beginning on Day 1. This shows distribution, not the user's actual calendar, exercise order, or recovery pattern.

Represented-Muscle Median

The plan's non-zero muscle totals form its own comparison baseline. Muscle groups with no mapped work are listed separately rather than included as zeroes in that median.

Editable Comparison Band

The default flags totals below 60% or above 160% of that median. Those percentages are editable programming heuristics, not physiological thresholds or evidence of a bad plan.

Specialisation Has Context

A specialised block can intentionally emphasize one area or omit another. Use the flags to ask better programming questions, not to force every muscle into equal volume.

Maintainable exercise data

The exercise library is loaded from one maintainable data file. Selecting an exercise fills its primary and secondary muscles, while every assignment remains editable for variations in grip, stance, range of motion, technique, or equipment.

Exercise Selection Matters

Two exercises with similar names can distribute work differently. Check the suggested mapping instead of treating the exercise label as a perfect anatomical model.

Set Quality Is Not Measured

The total does not capture load, effort, proximity to failure, technique, range of motion, tempo, progression, or recovery. Equal set counts can produce different training demands.

Use Repeatable Inputs

Apply one counting method consistently when comparing programme versions. Changing the mapping or weights changes the model, so document those decisions with the exported results.
